I had always been curious about Keto diet and would often get asked my opinion about it. I hated not having one and no experience with this topic so I decided I needed to try it. Six weeks ago I started keto with the intention of building an experienced opinion for myself and that’s really it. My goal was not to lose weight, I simply wanted to follow that protocol and see how my body would respond. In all honesty, today I have only great things to say about it! Here are the health benefits of the Keto diet that I can now agree on. Keto changes the way your body fuels itself. When you limit carbs, your body starts to burn fat rather than glucose for energy. Your body uses stored body fat and fat from your diet as fuel. The result? Rapid weight loss. Ketones also influence the hormones that control appetite. My appetite has severely decreased since starting the diet. This makes intermittent fasting very easy and comfortable for me on the days that I like to just wake up and get to work right away. There is also research that shows that Ketones provide your brain with immediate fuel, strengthening and promoting it’s health and productivity. All those good fats on keto feed your brain and keep it strong. Your brain is the fattiest organ in the body made up of more than 60% fat so it needs lots of good fats to keep it running- it makes so much sense! Keto also stabilizes blood sugar. Carbs turn into glucose (aka sugar) in the body. Eating too many carbs causes your blood sugar to spike. When you switch from carbs to fat for energy, you experience this benefit. I used to experience severe blood sugar drops, cold sweats, and dizziness throughout the day. Since starting keto, I have not had that happen again. I also found that the Keto diet gives me more energy- which is hard to believe, right? When your brain uses ketones for fuel, you don’t experience the same energy slumps as you do when you’re eating a lot of carbs. On keto, your brain won’t start to panic, wondering when it will get its next hit of energy. When your metabolism is in fat-burning mode, your body can simply tap into fat storage available for energy. The result? No more energy crashes or brain fog. Keep in mind that for many people, energy is low the first week or two of keto. I personally didn’t experience that, but once it passes, you should feel better than ever. For me, Keto has tremendously improved my sleep. I’ve done a lot of research since realizing this to understand why it has changed the quality of my sleep for the better but unfortunately, I haven’t found much. I guess it’s one of those benefits that I won’t be able to explain but it is the greatest for me and the main reason why I want to stick to keto for as long as I still feel this good.
